The £2,500 grant, plainly
Can I get the £2,500 grant for air conditioning in Hertfordshire or North London?
Sometimes — and we'll tell you straight. Since April 2026 the government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump (which is what modern air conditioning is) — but only when it replaces your gas or oil boiler as your home's main heating, heats the whole home, and is installed to MCS-certified standards. It does not apply to cooling-only air con. Book a free survey and we'll confirm whether your home qualifies before you spend anything.
What qualifies
- It’s an air-to-air heat pump — the heating-and-cooling system we install — used as heating.
- It replaces your fossil-fuel boiler (gas or oil) as your home’s main heating.
- It heats the whole home, not just one or two rooms.
- The installation is carried out to MCS-certified standards.
- It’s a residential property (no new-builds).
What doesn't
- Cooling-only air conditioning — the system has to heat your home to qualify.
- A unit added alongside a boiler you’re keeping — it must replace it as your main heating.
- A two- or three-room partial job — the scheme is for whole-home heating.
- Any install done without MCS certification, whatever anyone promises.
If someone offers you “the grant” on a cooling-only unit, walk away — that's mis-selling, and it's your name on the paperwork.
How the money works
Where we're up to on this.
The grant is real, but it can only be claimed through an MCS-certified installer. We're getting set up to offer it — so right now we won't promise to knock £2,500 off your quote. What we will do is check your home against the scheme's rules at a free survey and tell you plainly whether it qualifies, so you know exactly where you stand. When our certification is live, this is the page that'll say so.
The grant, plainly
Is air conditioning really a heat pump?↓
Yes — an air-to-air heat pump moves heat rather than generating it. In summer it moves heat out of your room (cooling); in winter it moves heat in (efficient heating). One system, both seasons.
Does the grant apply to cooling-only air conditioning?↓
No. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme supports heat pumps as heating systems. It only applies when the system replaces your gas or oil boiler as your main, whole-home heating. A cooling-only installation doesn't qualify, and anyone advertising otherwise is mis-selling.
Do I have to give up my boiler to get the grant?↓
Effectively yes — the grant is specifically for replacing a fossil-fuel boiler with a heat pump as your home's primary heating. It isn't for adding air conditioning alongside a boiler you're keeping. We'll talk you through what that means for your home at the survey.
What is MCS certification and why does it matter?↓
MCS is the quality scheme grant-funded installations must be certified under. No MCS certification, no grant — it's that simple. We confirm the certification route on your quote before any work starts.
Can you apply the £2,500 for me right now?↓
Not yet — we're getting our MCS certification route in place. We won't promise a deduction we can't yet claim. Book a free survey and we'll confirm whether your home qualifies, and we'll update you the moment we can apply it for you.
How do I find out if my home qualifies?↓
Book a free survey. We check the property, the system fit and the scheme rules, and tell you plainly: eligible or not, and what the price is either way — before you commit to anything.
